Earth Day Celebration 2025: Regenerating the Earth, Honoring All Living Things
This Earth Day, we host Proctor Academy faculty and students for a celebration that honors the Earth’s vitality and the sacred connection between all living beings. Our day will spotlight regenerative farming practices, Indigenous traditions of caring for the Earth, while getting our hands dirty by being a farmer for a day.
Day Highlights Include:
Regenerative Farming at Pitcher Mountain Farm: Dive into the world of regenerative farming with a special focus on buffalo & grass-fed beef production. Learn how these practices mimic the natural grazing patterns of wildlife, enriching soil health and promoting biodiversity. Bison, a keystone species in many ecosystems, play a critical role in revitalizing the land. Students will learn how regenerative bison farming benefits the environment and enhances soil carbon sequestration.
Indigenous Tradition and Wisdom & Storytelling: Chief Don Stevens of the The Nulhegan Abenaki tribe will share how indigenous people traditionally cared for the land and animals. These teachings emphasize the importance of sustainable practices and a deep reverence for the natural world, reflecting a worldview that sees all creatures as part of a larger, interconnected whole. Learn about Abenaki Helping Abenaki and the mission for education, food security and sovereignty and how Holistic Roots is helping support their mission.
Bison Lunch: Students will enjoy a lunch of responsibly farmed buffalo meat. Discover how these meats are produced with respect for the land, free of hormones and antibiotics, and raised in harmony with nature. Meet the farmers as they share their passion for ethical and sustainable meat production that supports the health of the land, the animals and humans.
